Many believe dreams are messages the universe sends to tell us how to live our lives and make decisions. That said, have you ever wondered what it means when an ex appears in dreams?
When you dream about an ex, does it mean they’re thinking about you, too?
The answer to that is… quite possibly!
There’s no definitive answer to this, but here are some clues to help you figure it out!
1) You’re happy in the dream
When you dream about your ex, do you feel a sense of warmth? Do you feel happy and empowered?
Those are two distinct signs your energies are aligned. He or she is probably dreaming about you, then!
2) You’re seeing numbers
Next, pay attention to the numbers you see around you!
Remember, the Universe is always sending messages to us.
If you keep seeing the number “222” at work, at home, or in transit, your angels are sending you vibrational messages in the form of angel numbers.
They’re telling you that the Universe is looking out for your love life, and that the dreams you’re having could be a sign that maybe it’s time to reach out to your ex.
3) Your ex talks about you in real life
Here’s another, more practical tip, observe his or her behavior. For example, when your ex sees an old photo of the two of you, does he automatically reminisce about the “good old days?”
When they talk about your past relationship, is there a glimmer in their eyes? Do they look happier when they talk about you, way happier than when they talk about their current partner? It could be he or she is not over you!
4) You share soul ties with them
If you had a strong connection with your partner while you were dating—you’d finish each other’s sentences, know what they were going to say before they even said it, etc.—you might have a soul connection with your ex.
He or she could definitely be dreaming about you, then!
5) A gifted advisor confirms it
The signs in this list can help confirm whether your ex is thinking of you.
But why not get confirmation with someone who knows better?
It might be worthwhile to get advice from a gifted advisor who can erase those doubts and worries in your mind.
That’s exactly what I did after I went through the same thing.
Fortunately, a counselor from Psychic Source was able to assess my level of spiritual and personal development. I got really helpful insights that helped resolve the matter for me.

6) Your ex confirms it
You heard that right – why not just go ahead and ask your ex if they dream about you?
It could be awkward if you haven’t spoken in a while, but at least you will get the answer then and there, right?
If you do decide to reach out, it’s best to approach the conversation in a calm and respectful manner, and be prepared for any outcome.
7) You had many happy memories with them
If there were a lot of good moments in your relationship, there’s a big chance your ex dreams about you.
As human beings, we always want to preserve positive memories and experience them again.
One of the most common ways to fulfill that yearning would be to relive those happy moments in dreams.
Why are you dreaming about your ex?
Because dreams are sent to teach us lessons and push us in the right direction, another good question to ask would be, “Why am I dreaming about my ex-lovers at all?”
Here are some possible reasons for your ex’s appearance in your dreamscape:
From a scientific point of view, if you’re dreaming about your ex, it means you have a lot of unresolved or unaddressed emotion attached to them.
Your brain could still be trying to grasp at and make sense of that. Your subconscious is working out the issues generally surrounding the breakup, and sometimes it does this through dreams.
You spent a lot of time with your ex
Another reason why your ex is popping up in your dreams could simply be because they are a familiar face. You’ve spent a lot of time with them, so it makes sense that they would appear in our dreams from time to time.
You still have feelings for your ex
Sigmund Freud, an Austrian neurologist, believed that dreams are the fulfillment of our unconscious, repressed wishes.
You know where we’re going, right?
I’m sorry to break it to you, but chances are you still have feelings for them buried deep within your heart, feelings you don’t want to admit to yourself.
You need closure
Speaking of unresolved feelings, it might be a matter of closure (or the lack of it).
Unfortunately, we do not always have the opportunity for closure in life. We live in a free world where people can just leave without providing justification for their actions.
Perhaps you never got the closure you needed in the relationship, and dreaming about your ex helps you deal with that.
Pay attention to how you interact with your former beau in your dream—are you fighting with him or her? It could mean you’re still struggling internally with how to feel about the relations.
And—I’m sure you’ve heard this before—as corny as it may sound, you cannot control other people. You can only control yourself.
If you want to stop dreaming about your ex, forgiving them while you are awake will be a big help. Only then will you be able to move on.
Different types of ex dreams
Before you get the closure you know you so deserve, why not make the most out of the situation you’re in by going just a little bit deeper into your dreams – find out the other messages the Universe is trying to tell you at night. In the world of dreams, what you see is rarely what you get.
For instance, did you know that there are various kinds of ex dreams? What you do with your ex in your dream, how you interact with him or her, has their own special meaning. Let’s find out more about this below:
Dream about a traumatic ex
If your ex brought you misery in any form or manner and you dream about him doing the same thing to you, he or she likely left deep scars in your psyche.
You’ve obviously not been able to forgive and forget, and it is haunting you real bad. If that is the case, you might want to seek the help of a counselor.
As I mentioned earlier, the guidance of a counselor can help ease your mind.
I know this from experience. With the help of my counselor from Psychic Source, I was able to get insights into my spiritual and personal development.

You might also want to ask yourself this question: Am I punishing myself for being in that relationship and for staying there?
People in abusive relationships stay in them for much too long because they are afraid or unsure of what to do.
When they do escape, they become angry with themselves and punish themselves, and these frustrations manifest themselves in their dreams.
Dream about an ex breaking up with you
If you have a dream that your ex is breaking up with you again, consider how long ago the breakup occurred.
If it was recent, you’re still not over it. There’s still a little bit of trauma that you’re experiencing and replaying over and over.
But if this happened a long time ago (like years ago) and you’re dreaming that your ex is abandoning you once more, you’re probably experiencing some form of rejection in your waking life at the moment.
This is what’s triggering the dreams. Remember, dreams are often a reflection of our subconscious thoughts and feelings, and a dream about your ex could be a manifestation of these feelings.
Dream about an ex in danger
If you have a dream that your ex is in danger and you’re trying to save them, give yourself a pat on the back.
The relationship made you a stronger, better person, and now the Universe is telling you to take what you learned from that experience and put it to good use.
The bottom line is that it is not uncommon to have intense dreams about your ex even after you’ve moved on.
However, if you are trying to figure out if they are thinking about you or longing for you, you may need to look at things from a spiritual and psychological vantage point.
Do you have a deep spiritual connection with your ex?
Try to get into the mind of your ex, too. Look at how the relationship ended in the first place. Is there anything that may be planted in their mind? Did they end it out of anger, or did they let things come naturally? These can give you clues as to whether they still hold feelings towards you and if they may dream about you.
Clearly, dreaming about your ex shows that they’ve still got an impact on your current life, AND they’ve definitely left a lasting impression on you. What you do with that knowledge is entirely up to you!
